LEGAL NOTICE: ELIZABETH SLOAN, LPC, LCPC IS RETIRED AS OF APRIL 30, 2026

This notice is for former clients of Elizabeth Sloan, LPC, LCPC.

I have retired and closed my practice, Caring Couples Happy Lives, LLC, as of April 30, 2026. I will not be available to provide clinical or emergency services after that date.

If you would like services after I have retired, you are welcome to contact my former colleagues at a new practice called Caring Couples, LLC. They each have more than 20 years of experience providing couples and family therapy and are familiar with my philosophy and techniques.

Dr. Marika Martin, LMFT, PhD

Dr. Kier Maxwell, LMFT, PhD

Alternatively, if you would prefer a therapist who is not affiliated with the practice, you can consult professional directories. Two that I am familiar with are:

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy

Psychology Today

Dr. Martin will serve as records custodian after I close the practice. Your records will be retained as required by law, which is six (6) years in Maryland and five (5) years in Virginia following the last session date. Your records will be destroyed after the retention period. No further notice will be provided.

You may request a copy of your records or have them transferred to a new provider by completing the Request for Clinical Records form on this website. Or, you can e-mail a PDF of the completed form to the Records Custodian .

Please note that if you had couples therapy and your records contain your partner’s information, your partner must also complete a Request for Clinical Records or your records will be redacted to protect the other person’s privacy.

Because of the volume of records requests, and on a case-by-case basis, Caring Couples, LLC may charge a nominal fee for preparing or forwarding records, according to applicable law. Please contact the Records Custodian for more information.

If you are a former client of Dr. Marika Martin, PhD, or Dr. Kier Maxwell, PhD, this notice does not apply to you. For information about retention of your records, please contact the Records Custodian .

It has been my pleasure and privilege to work with you. I wish you the very best in all things.

Elizabeth Sloan, LPC, LCPC
