Is Couple Checkup Right for You?
The Couple Checkup is appropriate for couples in any stage of a relationship.
If you are dating, the Couple Checkup can give you objective feedback about your relationship so you can sort through your feelings before taking the relationship to the next level.
If you are cohabiting, the Couple Checkup can help you determine whether your relationship is strong enough to support getting married.
If you are engaged, the Couple Checkup can help you detect potential relationship issues and prevent them from damaging your future together.
If you are married, the Couple Checkup can help you reconnect and discuss issues that may be coming between you. It is especially appropriate if your relationship is getting stale and problems are starting to become entrenched patterns.
If your relationship is in crisis or you’re on the brink of divorce, you will probably benefit more from couples therapy. If you are unsure whether Couple Checkup is right for you, contact us to set up a free phone consultation so you can talk with one of our marriage counselors.
In general, you meet with your marriage counselor in four sessions, each 45 minutes in length.
Session One. At the first session your relationship counselor helps you interpret your results and together. You learn about your Strength and Growth areas, Relationship Dynamics, and Communication Style. You collaborate on an action plan that guides the remaining three sessions.
You can take the entire program in one day, or spread it out over several weeks.
Session Two. During Session Two, you learn communication techniques and begin to discuss high priority growth areas. You are given structured homework to do before the next session.
Session Three. During Session Three, you learn a research-based Conflict Resolution technique and use it to work on the most critical issue facing your relationship. You build on your new skills through doing exercises at home.
Session Four. At the final session, you review your accomplishments and wrap up issues you want to handle in session. You create a long-term action plan for practicing your new skills and continuing to address challenges you have identified as high priority.
